The P1 Defender

The P1 Defender karting body protector is made to the new 8870-2018 FIA specification. An 8870-2018 rib protector is now mandatory in all FIA European and World Championship KZ, OKJ and OK Senior events.

This new version is based on our popular P1. It keeps the same comfort and minimal thickness of the standard P1 but adds more strength and coverage to the front and rear, including an integrated chest protector. Therefore, preventing not only rib injuries but also helping against potential steering wheel impacts.

The P1 Defender is not only designed to pass the rigorous FIA tests but at the same time remain flexible and unnoticeable under the race suit. The multi layered design takes its inspiration from the famous Chobham armour, which greatly reduces the thickness needed to deaccelerate the penetrative forces.

The angle of the side panels can be changed to the individual, this allows the driver to set the protector for a personal fit. Should they have a V shaped, or square ribcage this protector will adapt. The front fixing also allows this angle change. The thin flexible and light chest protector is made to self form to the chest, reducing the chance of it digging in during a crash.
The overlapping internal panels are light but resilient to breakage and because they are buried inside a sandwich of materials, the seat bolt heads are less likely to make holes in a race suit.

An elastic section in the front fixing strap and the fully adjustable elastic shoulder harnesses cope with many shapes of driver. Flexibility in these areas means the protector will not move out of position as the driver turns the shoulders to steer.

The inside surface is Lycra, which is very thin and reduces abrasion when wet. Inside there is a unique type of foam, made to absorb shocks without collapsing to nothing on the second impact.

The P1 DEFENDER is available for 4 height categories: C, XS, S and M.

Each height category has different circumferences available:
C, C+, XS- XS, XS+, S-, S, S+, M-, M and M+.

You can legally use your height category, or one size shorter according to the FIA regulation.

Size guide :

The P1 Defender is available in sizes relating to height and chest circumference.

Each hight window has a number of circumference choices.

To wear it as intended by FIA regulation, your height must fit in the correct height window, or one height category shorter.

To find your correct chest circumference use a measuring tape pulled tight around the chest. The measurement position shown on the diagram as a red line, is around nipple height for man and young children. the driver should breathe in and out, taking note of the average circumference. It is strongly advised to choose a rib protector that is not too large. When sizing a rib protector, the fit should be viewed exactly as you would fit a crash helmet, with no gaps and definitely not loose. If the driver is between size choose the smaller size and always use the additional 30 mm adjustment at the rear before choosing the next size up.

With the CIK Karting body protector, the correct height of side panel is regulated. The height of the user is measured from the bottom of the feet to the top of the head with the subject standing upright and wearing neither shoes or helmet.

You must choose a protector that matches your height, if the circumference required falls outside of your height range, or one height size down, a special may be required to keep the protector fit within in the regulations.Defender is available in sizes relating to height and chest circumference.
